MEOW! Meet Gary, SpongeBob’s pet sea snail. Gary communicates primarily in meows, but SpongeBob always seems to understand him. Gary is a complicated creature. He’s not the best at fetch, leaves a trail of slime wherever he goes, and is somehow technically Patrick Star’s cousin - but SpongeBob wouldn’t have him any other way! Fun fact about Gary? His shell holds TONS of stuff - including a record player, several cameras, a full engine block, and who knows what else.

Some of Gary’s most iconic moments from the original series include running away from home to live next door with Patrick (and getting temporarily replaced by a mean snail named Larry), the time he taught SpongeBob how to tie his shoes, the time he caught mad snail disease and started biting everyone, and of course when he was crowned King of Bikini Bottom. 

Gary’s first appearance in the original SpongeBob series was in the pilot episode titled “Help Wanted.” He also appears in each of the three SpongeBob theatrical releases, including The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. He also appears as a younger version of himself in the spin-off series Kamp Koral: The Under Years.
