Stubborn and self-confident, Toph loves to say and do whatever she pleases. She hates formalities and fancy stuff (like shoes). She’d rather feel the pebbles and dirt under her bare feet. Toph has no patience with other people telling her what to do, but loves bossing others around. A human lie detector, she can sense the slightest changes in people’s heartbeats and breathing. Toph often hides her feelings with humor and bravado, but with the right person, she’ll show her vulnerable side.

Born blind, Toph grew up learning to adapt and thrive. But her wealthy parents sheltered her, believing she was a fragile, helpless little girl. Longing to explore the world, Toph regularly ran away from home to experience adventure and secretly learn earthbending from the badger-moles. Calling herself “The Blind Bandit”, she dominated underground fighting tournaments, where she caught Aang’s eye during his search for an earthbending master.

Toph ran away from home for good to become an indispensable member of Team Avatar. But her greatest accomplishment was discovering the technique of metalbending – and after the war, Toph established her own metalbending academy.
